If there is one fun way to learn how large-scale urban planning works, it is by playing the management game Sim City. This is the reference we have taken to explain in a simple and playful way the complexity of building procedures outside the building zone. The project, initiated by the General Directorate of Land and Housing of the Canton of Vaud, quickly convinced other cantons and institutions to participate in the production of these videos. In the end, four chapters describe which constructions are compliant, derogatory or illicit outside the building zone. German and Swiss German versions were also produced for the bilingual cantons. Relayed by the communication media of the various cantons and by the press, the videos have received a large number of views. Most strikingly, the rate of 39% of complete views underlines the interest of viewers in these videos, notwithstanding their duration of up to 6 minutes.
